Hockey Fights Cancer, established in 1998 as a joint charitable initiative founded by the National Hockey League Players' Association and the National Hockey League, celebrates its 10th anniversary during the 2007-08 NHL season. Reflections on a Hockey Season will serve as part of this celebration by donating proceeds from its sale to the cause. The book will be available on Shop.NHL.com and at NHL Club stores as of Oct 1, 2007, and at bookstores on October 22.
As an endorsement of the book and its cause, Hall-of-Famer Wayne Gretzky, who lost his mother Phyllis to cancer in 2005, says, "Like so many others in the hockey community, cancer touched my family. I've always said my mother was the toughest person in our family and she was determined to remain positive and strong when she was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout this difficult time, we were overwhelmed by the support we received from the hockey community. I am proud to be part of the NHL family and the amazing commitment of time, resources, funds and awareness Hockey Fights Cancer provides."
