Local Hockey Event Raises Over $5,000 to Fight Breast Cancer with the Help of Famed Hanson Brothers

Harrisburg, PA (PRWEB) May 24, 2007 -- What do breast cancer and ice hockey have in common? In this case, a lot of fun, great entertainment and a donation of over $5,000 to help women with breast cancer and their families. On May 5th, 2007 three of the most famous faces in hockey, the Hanson Brothers from the 1977 hit movie Slapshot, traveled to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for a benefit ice hockey game between the Harbour House Crabs and the Red Robin Robins.

Slapshot 2, "Paint the Rink Pink" found the rough and tumble Hanson Brothers (Jeff Carlson, Steve Carlson and Dave Hanson) donning pink laces to show their support of women with breast cancer. Local amateurs played against each other with the help of the Hanson Brothers as part of two teams sponsored by Pennsylvania businesses Red Robin and Harbour House Crabs. This charity game benefited the PA Breast Cancer Coalition with a donation of $5,100. Over 350 people were in attendance.

As pink hockey pucks flew across the ice, no one would have guessed the Hanson Brothers and the fight against breast cancer would encourage such a large turnout. "Last year's event raised $2,500 and this year the event doubled. Players and fans got to see a great game and even got free autographs and pictures with the Hanson Brothers in the lobby after the game," said Rob Ziemba, Founder of Play It Again for Charity who hosts the annual hockey game.

As a major sponsor of the event, Harbour House Crabs donated prizes and jerseys. Jenn Farr, a Harbour House Crabs employee and breast cancer survivor, had the honor of dropping the puck to start the game. Curt Engle, President of Harbour House Crabs, put it best when he said, "We wanted to be involved with this event because this non-discriminating disease has not only affected our Harbour House family, but has affected countless families across our nation. We wanted to be part of finding a cure."

With a final score of 9 - 4, the Harbour House Crabs didn't do as well as they'd hoped. But the event itself was a complete success! The second in a series of annual events, plans are underway for another game next year with the Hansons to raise even more funds to fight this disease that takes the lives of too many too soon.
